  • Custom Illustrated Map of Napa Valley by Wanderlust Designer

Illustration News: Custom Map of Napa Valley for the ACCP Conference

I was so excited to be commissioned to create a custom map for the Association of Club Catering Professionals a few months back. They held their annual conference in Napa Valley and they wanted a fun way to represent all the locations they would be visiting during the conference. Once I created the map, they had the illustration printed on canvas bags to hand out to all conference attendees. The bag would then be used throughout the conference as the attendees went from event to event, and gathered notes and goodies at each spot. I loved getting the positive feedback from the association that map and bag were well received!…

  • Neighborhood to Wander: Stateline North Lake Tahoe by Wanderlust Designer

On Location: Exploring Stateline North Lake Tahoe

Stateline North Lake Tahoe is one of my favorites spots on Earth! I’ve been vacationing summers and winters here since I was a tiny baby. I even lived at Lake Tahoe for 2 years and worked as a designer just inches from where this map depicts. Many come to visit Lake Tahoe and only visit South Shore (the more built up and commercial side of the Lake.) Although South Shore Lake Tahoe offers great attractions, the North Shore should not be missed. This side of the lake is filled with old Tahoe charm, incredible beaches, natural hot springs and even old fashioned casinos reminiscent of the 1950’s. Below is an itinerary…

Art on the Go: Make a Map of Your Stay

Sometimes a visit to a new place can be a whirlwind. You arrive, you tour, and the next thing you know you’re packing up and heading home. Once back, you try to remember what you did and draw a blank! Well here’s a simple art on the go project to quickly pull out the highlights of your trip – sketch a map of your stay. The map of your stay could be of just one day, it could be of a full week or an entire month. It can be of all the restaurants you ate at, all the hotels you stayed in or all the monuments or sites you…

  • Day One Peru, South America: A Rough Start Leads to a Little Piece of Heaven

Travel Stories: Peru, South America, Map of Day One

My family’s adventure to Peru last summer was amazing. Our kids were quite the troopers– up before dawn many times, long travel days, and even educational seminars… and they still had a blast. The first day of a trip can sometimes be the hardest, though. Although everyone was so excited for the adventure, exhaustion from travel, and acclimatizing to our new environment was harder than expected. I decided to illustrate this first day as a map (above) to show of our adventures. Here’s our story. Day One: South America: A Rough Start Leads to a Little Piece of Heaven Lima, Peru: Adventures don’t always start out as planned. [After a full…

Time+Place: Map Puzzles of Famous Cities Through Time

Travel, history, and maps — three of my favorite things all in a puzzle! I can’t think of a better way to learn about a city I am about to visit than playing with one of 4D Cityscape’s Time Puzzles. How does it work? You start by layering the landscape and geographical map of the city to become a 2 dimensional puzzle. Next comes the 3rd and 4th dimension— skyscrapers, monuments, bridges and significant city sites are added based on time. With the help of a Time Poster, you add each building on the map according to the year it was built, and the history of the city unfolds. With…

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Lawrence F I am saddened to hear of the passing of Lawrence Ferlinghetti, poet, artist, publisher and champion to Beatniks everywhere! In 1953, he and Peter Martin opened City Lights Pocket Book Shop in North Beach, San Francisco creating a haven for like minded individuals to explore, read, and publish creative works outside the norm for the time.

His bookstore and North Beach were a huge influence for me in creating my Wanderlust Guides! It’s stories like his, the history it created and the creative vibe that can be discovered there even today when wandering this neighborhood that I just love. For anyone exploring the streets of San Francisco, a visit to City Lights Booksellers is a must. With my Wanderlust San Francisco book handy, you can even try your hand at writing some Beat poetry!😎 @westmarginpress #riplawrenceferlinghetti #beats #beatniks #poetry #northbeach #sanfrancisco #wanderlustguide #wanderlustsanfrancisco #citylightsbookstore
Time to get a little personal... for many of us ou Time to get a little personal... for many of us out there, staring down at a scale ranks up there with tooth extraction, just something we don’t want to have to deal with!! For almost a decade now if I really think about it, not counting that one 4 month stretch about 4 years ago, I have been avoiding this view. Yes, I’ve known my weight is not ideal. I have gone to doctor appointments and seen first hand what the scale looked like, but quickly let that image go once I left their office!

Long story short - NOW is the time. I’m a middle aged woman of pretty good health I’d say except for my weight, but lately (as in the last few years) I’ve been feeling my age more. Aches and pains where I didn’t used to have them. One could easily chalk this up to, well, AGE, because that does happen, but my stiffness, lack of the ability to stretch and just plain aching back was getting out of hand. I’m too young for this. After all, the 50s are the new 30s, right?

So fast forward to 2021... and I finally have said, enough is enough. After dealing with my 40s plagued with migraines (20-25 headache days a month) I’m seeing that subside (yay!) and ready to tackle my weight. I’m happy to report I am already 20lbs lighter!! 🎉. Hard work does pay off. I have a much, much longer road ahead, as weight loss is a s-l-o-w process, but I am game. Ill be the turtle to the hare and will get there I know!

You know what one of the things that is keeping me going?? TRAVEL!! Yup, betcha wouldn’t have guessed 😂 but I have so many adventures around the globe in mind post-pandemic and I want to be ready! Hiking in Nepal, sleeping in Wadi Rum, exploring Patagonia— the list goes on. I’m crossing my fingers the roaring twenties will be here soon enough and I will be there with you actively celebrating!

Have you ever done a big weight loss or health regime? Anyone else on my same mission? I’d love to connect and as always thank you for listening and your support! ☺️

I am so proud of all the puzzles I’ve created in I am so proud of all the puzzles I’ve created in the last few years for the fabulous @truesouthpuzzle - I’m realizing I haven’t shared nearly enough of all the fun details that go into creating each of these illustrations. Before I even start illustration I spend many many hours researching the topic. My puzzle designs have taken me to tiny, cool places such as Fancy Gap, Virginia and St Catherine’s Island, Georgia. I’ve researched a crazy number of US landmarks such as the Corn Palace in South Dakota and the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo Texas. I’ve even discovered one of Alaskans’ favorite drinks is a duck fart. I’m currently wrapping up the design of my 12th (!!) puzzle and can’t wait for the reveal. So stay tuned for many more details and be sure to head to @truesouthpuzzle to pick up one of my designs! #puzzles #puzzleillustrator #illustrator #research #fancygap #cadillacranch #duckfart #cornpalace #stcatherinesisland
