January is the perfect time to hit the slopes and Whistler Blackcomb in beautiful British Columbia, Canada is one of the best places to go! Not only is it the largest ski resort in North America, with slopes for all abilities and ages, it was also home to the 2010 Winter Olympics making it a world class resort for much more than just skiing.

I was able to snowboard there many years ago for an adventuresome long weekend.  We flew from San Francisco to Vancouver, and spent the night enjoying this world class city filled with urban attractions and surrounded by incredible nature. The next day, we drove the scenic Sea to Sky highway from Vancouver to Whistler. We stayed in a down home lodge only a few miles from the main village and soaked up pub life in BC that evening. The next day we tackled the mountain, and only scratched the surface of discovering all the possible runs. The last day of our trip brought in unexpected sub-zero temperatures, so instead of a day on the slopes, we chose to spend the morning at the skating rink, taking in one of the most popular sports in Canada. That evening, we headed back down the highway (roughly an hour and 1/2 drive) to Vancouver, and flew home. A whirlwind weekend to say the least, but gave me a taste of all the Whistler has to offer and I am aching to get back!
