Sometimes a visit to a new place can be a whirlwind. You arrive, you tour, and the next thing you know you’re packing up and heading home. Once back, you try to remember what you did and draw a blank! Well here’s a simple art on the go project to quickly pull out the highlights of your trip – sketch a map of your stay.

The map of your stay could be of just one day, it could be of a full week or an entire month. It can be of all the restaurants you ate at, all the hotels you stayed in or all the monuments or sites you visited. The key to this project is to keep it simple. There’s no need for a detailed drawing, in fact, it doesn’t have to even be a drawing… it could be words instead – the name of the restaurant, the name of the site, the food you ate, the people you saw.

Above is a quick sketch I did as we were packing up our apartment in Paris after a wonderful week stay. Although I had written a travel journal, I thought it would be fun to quickly sketch a map of the monuments we saw each day. To add more details to my map, I could have put the date, noted the weather, or even written a few words about our experience. I could make it as simple or complicated as I like. The best thing about this art on the go project is it’s a great snapshot of my stay! Just looking at the monument and the order in which we saw them makes me recall many other memories of our wonderful week in Paris.
